In our previous article, we have started a little sneak peek over the incredible skill of GPT-3 that allows anyone who doesn’t understand coding or programming language at all to write and run a specific command for the computer to do. Today, the conversation around the mesmerizing GPT-3 is much more growth as it is applied widely. Among others is one phenomenal event when a GPT-3 writes an entire article at The Guardian.

What is GPT-3?

Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3 (GPT-3) is an autoregressive language model that uses deep learning to produce human-like text. It is created by OpenAI, a San Francisco-based artificial intelligence research laboratory. GPT-3 is part of a trend in natural language processing (NLP) systems of pre-trained language representations.

Why is it able to be the stepping stone of the internet revolution?

GPT-3 represents a revolution in its ability to act as a natural language interface between humans and machines for so many different applications. While some of GPT-3’s most lauded advances in text generation and summarization were already feasible using prior natural language processing (NLP) and natural language generation (NLG) models that have existed for years, GPT3 represents a breakthrough in its ability to serve as a natural language interface between humans and machines for so many different applications.

GPT-3 is a program that links a variety of algorithm-based artifacts. It can create images or designs, and it can translate what you write in plain English into a technical or programming language.

For example, based on a few prompts like “Add three buttons at the homepage and a blue button that says ‘subscribe now,’” the algorithm will automatically create a web page layout with the corresponding HTML code. Several studies have shown that the language can be used to sketch wireframes in Figma, a collaborative design platform that has designers terrified.

Latest Update on GPT-3

OpenAI introduced DALLE and CLIP, two new GPT-3 models that can create images from text descriptions using a dataset of text-image pairs, earlier this year. CLIP is an internet-based image recognition device that has learned to recognize pictures and captions. When given a prompt, the AI creates a sequence of images and ranks them according to which one best matches the prompt.

To test the model, AI researchers fed the algorithm a series of nonsense prompts to see how it would synthesize unrelated objects such as “an illustration of a baby daikon radish in a tutu walking a dog” or “an armchair in the shape of an avocado.”

How did GPT-3 can be so powerful?

GPT-3 was trained on the world’s largest dataset, resulting in over 175 billion machine learning parameters. Its algorithm processed over 45 terabytes of data, including thousands of digital books, Wikipedia entries, and nearly one trillion words posted on blogs, social media, and the rest of the internet.

The ease of coding comes at a price.

Unlike any AI models, GPT-3 is not open-source. OpenAI provides the ready-made model as a commercial product in the form of an input-output interface. As such, GPT-3 resets the rules of the AI model game because it does not give away its code but merely offers an easy-to-use application programming interface (API) on a commercial basis. It allows developers to tap into the GPT-3 power while not giving away a peek into its inner workings.

OpenAI claims that releasing the API in restricted beta would save the model from being used for dubious purposes like spamming emails or mass-producing fake news and deep fakes.
